Hope for a Better South Carolina Scholarship

Each year the Hope for a Better South Carolina Foundation Scholarship Committee awards college scholarships to graduating Junior Civitans, Campus Civitans and/or Civitans enrolled in college that are residents of South Carolina.

The Hope for a Better South Carolina Foundation Scholarship is a competitive program. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic merit, commitment to the goals of Civitan showing exemplary service to community, and potential to succeed in the applicant's chosen educational field. Award winners must be active members of Civitan or Junior Civitan. Selections are based on information received from the application and the additional requested materials received with a postmark of no later than February 28, 2026. Information received is subject to verification.
Scholarships shall be awarded on an objective and non-discriminatory basis with neither race, creed, nationality, color, sex, age, nor disability being considered.
Decisions of the Hope for a Better South Carolina Scholarship Committee are final. Justification for recipient selections will not be released.

Junior Civitan applicants must meet the following criteria for eligibility:

1. Completed at least one full year of continuous and current dues paying membership in an active Junior Civitan Club in South Carolina that is in good standing with Civitan International as of January 5 of the year in which the award will be made.
2. Be a senior in high school and planning to attend an accredited public or private college or university located in the U. S. as a full-time student in the fall of the year the award is made.
3. Have a minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
4. Plan to earn a recognized undergraduate academic degree in the time normally prescribed for satisfactory progress.

Campus Civitans and adult Civitans must meet the following criteria for eligibility:

1. Completed at least one full year of continuous and current dues paying membership in an active Campus Civitan or Civitan Club in South Carolina that is in good standing with Civitan International as of January 5 of the year in which the award will be made.
2. Attending an accredited public or private college or university located in the U. S. as a full-time student in the fall of the year the award is made.
3. Plan to earn a recognized undergraduate academic degree in the time normally prescribed for satisfactory progress.

The Hope for a Better South Carolina Foundation was formed by Civitan Clubs in South Carolina to provide scholarships to deserving individuals and support charitable efforts in South Carolina.

In July 1995, the Foundation Fellows Program was established. The Fellows Program is available for any club, individual, family, or group to recognize another person by contributing $300.00 to the Hope for a Better South Carolina Foundation.
