The Hope for a Better SC Foundation was originally formed on September 19, 1994 as the South Carolina District Civitan Foundation. Delegates at the South Carolina Civitan District Convention voted unanimously to establish the Foundation and to have Civitan International manage the funds for the South Carolina Foundation. The purpose was to support Civitan and Junior Civitan activities in South Caronina and to provide sholarships to deserving students. In 2022 the South Carolina District of Civitan International merged into Region 2 with the states of Georgia and Florida. The Foundation was reorganized and became a separate entity from Civitan International and the former South Carolina District. Although we are now the Hope for a Better South Carolina Foundation, the purpose and ideals remain much the same.
In July 1995, the Foundation Fellows Program was established to aid in funding. The Fellows Program is available for any club, individual, family, or group to recognize another person by contributing $300.00 to the Hope for a Better South Carolina Foundation. The Foundation is classified by the IRS as a public charity under IRC Section 501(c)(3) and your contributions are eligible for tax deductions subject to IRS code.
Each year the Hope for a Better South Carolina Foundation Scholarship Committee awards college scholarships to graduating Junior Civitans in South Carolina. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic merit, commitment to the goals of Civitan showing exemplary service to community, and potential to succeed in the student's chosen educational field. Please visit our scholarship page for information about applying.
We Hope for a Better South Carolina by supporting the charitable efforts of service clubs, supporting people with disabilities and awarding scholarships to our future leaders.
